Paul Scopetski's football accomplishments bring to the Metrowest Colonials a vast amount of experience and know-how that such a young organization such as ours can take full advantage of and turn some heads in 2010.

We have set the solid foundation needed to take football to the next level here at the Colonials, and with Coach Scopetski on board we know that we will be a contender Organization that will turn some heads this coming 2010 Season. We feel honored to have Paul as part of Metrowest Colonials' Organization.

We feel that it's only proper for you the player, the fan, and even prospect players since we are in full swing on our recruitment stage to know who will be heading up field-operations as Head-Coach of this great organization your Metrowest Colonials.

Coach Scopetski will be looking and interviewing for the following positions:

  • Defensive Coordinator
  • Special Teams Coordinator

History

(1961-1964) St. John’s Shewsbury HS – Linebacker/Guard/Tackle/Halfback/Fullback

(1965-1968) College of the Holy Cross – Worcester, MA – Earned a football scholarship while playing Linebacker for the Crusaders. Started 30 consecutive varsity games.

(1969) Undrafted free agent Linebacker for the Cleveland Browns

(1969) Played Linebacker for the New Jersey Jays of the Continental League (Browns farm team)

(1970) Played Linebacker for the Hartford, CT Knights of the Atlantic Coast League

(1974-1975) Played Linebacker for the Webster Colonials of the Eastern Football League

(1976-1987, 1989, 1991-1992) Played Linebacker/Defensive End/Center for the Marlboro Shamrocks of the Eastern Football League.

(1995-1997) Played Linebacker/Defensive Line for the Leominster Lions of the Eastern Football League

(1998-1999) Played Defensive/Offensive Line for the Eastern Mass Mavericks and Tri-Boro Rhinos of the New England Football League.

(2000) Played for the Commonwealth Cavalry of the New England Football League

(2001-2002) Played Offensive/Defensive Line for the Leominster Razorbacks of the NEFL.

(2002-2003) Played as a lineman for the Tri-Boro Rhinos of the NEFL

(2004-2005) Played as a lineman for the Worcester County Wildcats of the NEFL

(2006-2008) Played Offensive Line for the Woonsocket Sentinels of the NEFL

2009 – Retired from the New England Football League

1964: St. John HS – MVP Award (Senior Year)
1966: College of the Holy Cross – Defensive MVP (Sophomore Year)
1968: College of the Holy Cross – Defensive Player of the Year, Outstanding Player of the Year, All New England Player Award
1977 & 1978: Eastern Football League All-Star
1978: EFL Defensive MVP Award
1979: EFL Sportsmanship Award
1980: Shamrock Team of the Decade Award
1985: Mr. Shamrock Award
1999: National Football Events Casino Bowl All-Star Game
2004: Minor League Football News “Iron Man” National Award
2004: Minor League Football News Hall of fame Inductee (Inaugural class)
2006: New England Football League Hall of Fame inductee
2006: Subject of “GeezerJock Magazine” article on his personal workout regimen
2006: NEFL All-Star player for the Woonsocket Sentinels
2008: Completed 31st Season (38th overall) of minor league football after playing 360 games. 428 games overall since 1961. NEFL All-Star game selection.

 

Personal History:

Played 8 positions as a senior at St. John’s while earning a scholarship to Holy Cross.

Started all 30 games at Holy Cross.

Played against players such as Calvin Hill, Floyd Little, Larry Csonka, Bob Leland, Ray Ilg and Marc Hubbard, all of whom went on to play in the NFL.

Never missed a football game due to a game related injury in 360 games.

Spotlighted on ESPN2 during a 1 hour documentary about Jim “King” Corcorran, QB for the Pottstown Firebirds, during the 1970 ACFL season. “King” later went on to be Joe Namath’s backup in Super Bowl III.

Married since 1969 to Theresa, his high school sweetheart. He has 1 son, Scott, and 2 grandchildren, Jake and Susan.

Owns and operates The Spare Time Shop, a retail hobby shop in Marlboro, MA, since 1973.

Still participates in Senior (50+) softball leagues, State and National Senior (50+) Olympics in 12 different events as well as Spring/Summer mini-triathlons.

 

National Records Held:

Years of Service: 38 (1st overall)

2nd Oldest Active Player (61 years) behind Bob Blechen at 62 years.

Most Games Played: 360 (1st overall)

Most teams played for: 11 (3rd behind Steve Mosher and Rick Buffington)

Paul lives a life free of alcohol, nicotine, sugar and fats. He still enjoys working out everyday with his wife right beside him.
